When logging into Codex, I'm prompted for secondary mobile number verification. Can FamilyPro provide the verification code?

Issue Description

Some users who have purchased or used GPT/ChatGPT-related services can log in to ChatGPT normally. However, when attempting to log in to Codex, Codex CLI, Codex plugins, or Codex-related features, the system may require additional mobile number verification.

Common prompts include:

  • You need to add a mobile number
  • You need to enter a mobile verification code
  • Redirected to the OpenAI mobile verification page
  • Can log in to ChatGPT, but cannot proceed with Codex login
  • Codex requires verification of a previously linked phone number
  • Phone number has reached the verification limit and cannot be used further

These situations are typically not caused by incorrect FamilyPro account credentials or standard ChatGPT login verification code issues, but rather by account security or risk control verification triggered by OpenAI or Codex.

Can FamilyPro provide a verification code for Codex’s secondary phone number verification?

Not at this time.

Currently, FamilyPro cannot provide verification codes for Codex’s secondary phone number verification, nor can it complete Codex phone number binding, rebinding, or secondary verification on users' behalf.

Reason: Codex’s phone number verification is part of OpenAI’s account security verification process, and verification codes are sent to the phone number specified by the OpenAI system. This phone number may be a historically linked number, the number used for initial verification, or a new number that OpenAI currently requires users to verify. FamilyPro cannot directly control, modify, or bypass this verification process.

We understand that Codex is very important to developer users, and we are actively communicating with and seeking partners who can provide long-term, stable support for this need. If we are able to offer a more stable solution in the future, we will update this explanation immediately.

Why can I log in to ChatGPT, but Codex still requires phone number verification?

A successful ChatGPT login does not guarantee that Codex will be immediately accessible.

Codex is a high-sensitivity developer tool that may involve operations such as code repositories, development environments, terminals, and plugin authorizations. Therefore, OpenAI may enforce stricter account security requirements for Codex.

The following situations are more likely to trigger secondary verification for Codex:

First-time use of Codex
Logging in from a different device or browser
Reauthorizing when using the Codex CLI, IDE plugins, or desktop app
Unusual login environments associated with the account
Frequent switching of IP addresses, regions, devices, or networks
Multiple users sharing the same account
History of using temporary phone numbers or SMS forwarding services
OpenAI determines that the current operation requires additional security verification

Therefore, even if ChatGPT itself is functioning normally, Codex may still require two-factor authentication via a phone number.

Does this situation constitute a FamilyPro service issue?

Generally, no.

If you can log in to ChatGPT normally and the GPT membership features are functioning properly, this indicates that your base account and membership benefits are typically in good standing.

Codex secondary phone number verification is an additional security measure implemented by OpenAI/Codex and is not equivalent to:

Account not activated
Incorrect account password
GPT membership expired
FamilyPro order not shipped
Issues with Regular ChatGPT Login Verification Codes

If you’re encountering a regular ChatGPT login verification code, please go to the Order History page to retrieve the login verification information.

If you’re encountering Codex phone number verification, FamilyPro is currently unable to provide the verification code.

What should I do if I encounter Codex secondary phone number verification?

You can first troubleshoot by following these steps:

  1. Confirm whether ChatGPT is functioning normally

Please log in to ChatGPT first to verify that the following functions are working properly:

Can you access the ChatGPT page?
Are your GPT membership benefits displayed?
Can you initiate conversations normally?
Can you use the models or features supported by your plan?

If ChatGPT is working normally but only Codex requires phone number verification, this usually indicates that the issue is specific to the Codex security verification process.

  1. Avoid frequently logging out, switching devices, or making repeated attempts

If the system has already triggered the phone number verification, please do not repeatedly switch IP addresses, browsers, devices, or network environments while attempting to log in.

Frequent attempts may further trigger risk control measures, resulting in stricter verification requirements.

We recommend maintaining a stable network connection and waiting for a while before attempting to log in again.

  1. We do not recommend using temporary SMS verification platforms

We do not recommend using one-time SMS reception platforms or temporary phone numbers to complete Codex verification.

These types of numbers usually cannot be retained long-term. If OpenAI subsequently requests verification of the same phone number again, you may be unable to receive the verification code, resulting in Codex or even account-related functions being locked.

For users who need to use Codex on a long-term and stable basis, we recommend prioritizing a real phone number that you can retain long-term and use to repeatedly receive text messages, or a legitimate long-term number.

  1. If the page requires verification of a historical phone number

If Codex requires verification of a historical phone number on which you can no longer receive text messages, FamilyPro is currently unable to assist with recovery or replacement.

You can try submitting an appeal or explaining your situation through OpenAI’s official support channels, but whether the verification requirement can be lifted depends on OpenAI’s official decision.

Will FamilyPro support Codex phone number verification in the future?

We are actively evaluating and discussing relevant partnership options.

However, until a stable solution is in place, we cannot guarantee that we will be able to provide Codex SMS verification code services, nor do we recommend that users rely on unstable, temporary SMS reception methods.

If FamilyPro is subsequently able to provide stable, long-term, and compliant Codex verification support, we will update the instructions in the Help Center and on the order page.

Important Reminder

Purchasing GPT/ChatGPT services primarily ensures access to ChatGPT membership benefits.

The secondary phone number verification triggered during Codex login is an additional security measure implemented by OpenAI for Codex features. This verification may vary depending on factors such as your account, region, device, network environment, and historical binding information.

Therefore, FamilyPro cannot currently guarantee that all accounts will pass the Codex secondary phone number verification.

If your primary need is long-term, stable use of Codex, please confirm whether you can accept this limitation before purchasing or renewing your subscription.
